I have just tasted some of the best wines I've ever tried from the Similkameen and Okanagan Valleys. Herder Winery and Vineyards, based in the Similkameen Valley, are producing top quality wines. We are proud of the fact that Newport Liquor is one of the only private stores where you can buy the Herder label.

The Twin Bench 2006 Chardonnay ($28.50) is packed with apple, pear and nectarine notes. Full bodied with tropical fruits and a vanilla spiced and honey finish, this wine is an excellent match with creamy full flavored pasta dishes. Now on to the amazing reds!
The 2006 Merlot ($39.50) is the best of the New World and Old World wine styles. Rich concentrated dark plum and cassis flavours blending nicely with an earthy, dark chocolate, herbal and a slightly smoky finale.
The 2006 Josephine ($44.75) is a Bourdeaux blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Look for black plum, cherry and an attractive pencil lead and herbal scent. Very well balanced with an integrated touch of lightly smoked oak.
These wines are produced in very limited quantities, usually under 500 cases, and are priced $28 to about $45 but are worth every penny. I bought a case right away as I knew they would be sold out quickly. The bad news is that the Merlot and Josephine are sold out at the winery, but the good news is that they are still available at our store!
