Along with attractive fresh new packaging, Cedar Creek is expecting the first fruit this fall from their new premium vineyard located on the east side of Osoyoos. Haynes Creek vineyard was planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec , Petit Verdot, Syrah and Viognier in 2007. These vineyards will not only boost production but will offer consumers new wines from some of the best location in the Okanagan.

Cedar Creek produces more than 30,000 cases of quality wine a year, many of them award winners. Cedar Creek is one of the wineries that, in my opinion, produce white and red wine equally as good. Some BC wineries tend to have their strong suits either in red or white largely due to the location of their vineyards. Cedar Creek has vineyards ranging from mainly white sites in Kelowna to the warmer climate of Osoyoos for full bodied reds.

Gordon poured a number of new 2008 white releases, among them the ever popular 2008 Ehrenfelser. This wine fresh under a screw cap is a summer favourite because of its apricot, nectarine, citrus and off dry honey flavours. The finish is long and because of the refreshing acidity not only is it fine as a stand alone wine but it matches well with spicy Asian cuisine. There are only 2068 cases of this wine made and it sells out quickly so try it soon and buy by the case.

A big surprise was the 2007 Proprietors White at $11.90 a bottle. This wine is blended from six different vinifera varietals and offers up tropical and orchard fruit with a clean, bright, off dry finale. It was quite full of flavour and displayed a nice medium bodied mid palate.

Next was the 2008 Riesling. Another winner here and at $17.90 a good deal. It reveals green apple, peach, mango and a hint of citrus fruit on the palate. It's an off dry wine with a bit more structure than the Ehrenfelser, a good mate with fish and poultry dishes or cold cuts and medium soft cheeses.

These whites are sure to please this summer so untwist and enjoy!
